There’s always a lot to talk about with the world’s most expensive sport. Looking beyond the facade of beautiful, plastic promo girls, unlimited supplies of fine champagne, and pay-packets belying belief, there’s actually a lot of both competitiveness and camaraderie involved, oodles of skill required, and let’s be honest here – the guys are driving not only the fastest but also the most potentially dangerous cars possible, where even braking too hard in certain situations can leave you paralised. Enough said. Jenson Button further establishes himself as front-runner in this season’s affair. In Bahrain, coming up from third place into ‘chequered pole’ sees him move 12 points clear of the chasing pack, even without the video-game-esque KERS system some of the other teams have been using to find that extra split second of pace. Other teams and drivers are looking good and getting better though, depending on who your focus is on. The only real sob story left would have to be the tale of two Ferraris, wallowing in the doldrums with a measly three points between them.
But away from the motorsport we also see that it’s cusp time for footballing sides with the Champions League final set to be determined this week. Also, on the other side of the spectrum we have some teams hovering over and others already pushing that self destruct button that leads to relegation. Across the English leagues we’ve seen the loss of a fair few teams from their respective divisions. The Premiership is yet to suffer its first casualties but in line for the chop and drop could be any three of the bottom nine. It doesn’t get much tighter than that.
So far we’ve looked at a team sport, another one – involving both a team and individuals which, although separate, can never be mutually exclusive… But what about the pinnacle of individual sporting brilliance itself. The sporting metaphor of one man and his trusty ‘blade’ going to battle against another equally tooled-out warrior in a court worthy of its own kings. The meta-sport I speak of here is tennis. Another ATP term is well under-way and we are fast approaching the midway point of the season. Rafael ‘el Rey himself’ Nadal picked up his first Australian Open crown back in January and the race is on for his rivals to pick up as many points, victories, cups and titles before Wimbledon takes centre stage in a couple of months.
Indeed across all sports there are exciting times ahead beckoning us with entertainment, surprises and disappointments. The Betdreamers team will be watching everything unfold between now and then and if there’s value-betting to be had, you know where to find it!
Until then…..Sie sind die besten….Les meilleurs equipes…Bring on the Champions League.
