Being gentlemen here at Betdreamers we’re letting the ladies go first and with that in mind we’ll preview the Safina V Lisicki clash before we get to Roger and his match with the big-serving Croat Karlovic.
The ladies quarters are being played on the Tuesday whilst the men don’t take to the courts until Wednesday so make sure you don’t delay if you want to place a bet.
Dinara Safina (pictured left) is the current world number 1 and is therefore rightly the overwhelminig favourite in her match with the 19 year-old Lisicki. Nevertheless although she’s at number 1 she has lost her only other previous match against her German opponent, a 3 set loss in last year’s Aussie Open. Since then Safina has been much more consistent and has reached the finals of both of this year’s Grand Slams in Australia and Roland Garros respectively. Although she cracked under the pressure in each final she has never shown such nerves in earlier rounds. Lisicki (pictured above) has also been in impressive form having won her maiden tournament in Charleston back in April before beating both 5th seeded Kuznetsova and 9th seeded Wozniacki in straight sets in the previous 2 rounds here at Wiimbledon.
This will be a great match up between two classy players however, we feel that Safina will prove the more savvy and she’ll come through although it will take her a gruelling 3 sets to do so.
We then move on to Wednesday and Federer’s match with Ivo Karlovic. Federer is full of confidence having
finally won the French Open and he has been a big favourite to win another All-England title since day one. In his quarterfinal he’ll come up against Karlovic (pictured right), the man with the most lethal serve in the modern game. 3rd and 4th round opponents Tsonga and Verdasco were unable to muster a single break point between them against the giant Croatian. Federer is obviously a class above those men however, if we look at the head-to-head matches between these 2 men we’ll see that Rog hasn’t had it all his own way. Although he holds an 8-1 lead over the Croatian 2 of those wins finished with scorelines of 7-6, 7-6 whilst their only Wimbledon match resulted in a 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 win. Those stats show that even the great Federer struggles with breaking the Karlovic serve.
We are backing Federer to win nevertheless there is a big possibility that we will see a number of tie-breaks in this match and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Karlovic managed to nick a set. Federer to win in 4 sets.
