We’re slap bang in the middle of a global recession yet there goes Royal Madrid, bettering most of the wags that tag along with their squad members. What we’re talking about here is one of the most extreme spending sprees known to man – £135 million for two players.
Fair enough, legend will have it that the two players were gods at what they did at their time… But still, those transfer fees equate to more than the GDPs of the three lowest income nations. Added together. Serious dough.
Alas, with these things and many others, money talks and all else walks and, at the end of the day, if the mob is willing to pay big money each week to see modern day gladiators strut their stuff on the turf, then surely it’s justified isn’t it?
The jury’s still out on that one and court is adjourned until the new season takes shape and brings about the inevitable debate about whether these two boys are ‘really worth the money’. Rest assured, if there’s a bet on it, we’ll have it covered!
The most amazing thing is that while assembling this squad of Galacticos numero 2, the rest of the footballing world has had to take a back seat and literally wait for Madrid to finish their looting. Once they are satisfied it’ll be interesting to see who else will go out and splash the cash…One thing’s for sure, its highly improbable that anyone will be able to eclipse the spending of the white team from Madrid.
